Are they normal?
Belonging to the LGBTQ+ community is called
karma in nearly everyone’s perception in the old days. Even now, many cannot
accept seeing their offspring being gay or lesbian. Just the idea of befriending
those would be abominable. They are disgusting and divergent, meant to be
non-existent, a flaw of the universe. But something against the law of the
universe would never exist.
Some claim that “homo” love is against the
Bible, against any religions and social norms. But when considering a religion,
please take into account the social, economic, and historical contexts. The
harsh and perilous living conditions in the old times made reproduction the
utmost importance, having the role to maintain human lives. Hence, human existence
was to pass down the next generations. As time goes by, life becomes decent,
comfortable, and secure. There marked the hedonistic age, enjoying life
pleasures and pursuing true love. People became aware of their sexual orientation.
From a scientific perspective, being gay is
a difference in our genetic make-up. Basically, to some misled activists,
LGBTQ+ people have nothing called flaw, they only have a wrong genetic make-up.
That notion would pave the way for the so-called “scientific racism”. In the 18
century, a book called Crania Americana was published, depicting Indian and
African skulls with odd and abnormal shapes. This led people to believe that
Native Americans and African slaves are inferior races. Some activists for
the emancipation of slaves are phrenologists, studying Crania Americana. They
became conditioned to claim that if released, black slaves would not fight back
since their brains are smaller than Caucasians’ and they were too “stupid” to
learn to revenge. The same phenomenon is happening here when some say that
LGBTQ+ people have a flaw in the genetic make-up. That “flaw” is only a trait.
A person can be straight, gay, lesbian, or bisexual just like the way he/she has
blue, green, or brown eyes.
From a religious perspective, LGBTQ+ never
goes against any beliefs or regulations. Each person has their own
interpretation of the scriptures and religion, and for any reason, some
interpretations will be predominant while others are marginalized. The pope says
“anyone who wants to build a wall to keep out migrants is not Christian”,
referring to President Donald Trump closing the US-Mexico border. But Trump is
a Presbyterian, making him a Christian. The Pope uses his interpretation of
Christianity to opine that Trump’s action is unreasonable and cruel. The fact
that is the head of the Roman Catholic Church does not make his interpretation more
convincing or prominent. Then, the interpretation of religions about LGBTQ+ is
from personal perspectives, with criticism and discrimination being the
predominant one. God never said that love between two men is wrong, nor did
Buddha, nor ancient civilizations when depicting the divine “homo” love. One
must accept that religions are internally diverse and self-evolving. In feudal
times, women who studied math were considered witches, but now the same
perception would be absurd and obsolete, to put it mildly. Thus, there is no
gainsaying the prospect wherein LGBTQ+ people would be considered “normal”, but
the path to that distant world is about dozens or hundreds of years. The path
to claiming the righteousness for the community is of the paramount
impossibility as for women’s rights. Females suffered from prejudices, no
education, and no voice in the family. The fight preserves until now, thousands
of years at least. Our descendants then would pursue their history textbooks, seeing
how shallow their forebears could be. Religions will evolve, eventually to
dismiss the interpretation that LGBTQ+ people are against the hope of God.
Since time immemorial, love, and empathy are
core values of humanity. If people can change to embrace the differences of
races, colors, and backgrounds, so can they celebrate the love between anyone,
not just a man and a woman, two men, two women, or any other kind. We tend to
put Wall-E and Eve into a mold of male-female, but they are machines, neither
man nor woman and they fall in love for each other
